Nursing Assistant Course

KCC - ALH-10400-00    M-TEC – ALH-10400-00M

Kirtland Community College offers a nursing assistant course each semester to prepare students to take the state examination to be certified as a Nursing Assistant. The attached paperwork gives the details of the course, the costs, and the requirements that need to be fulfilled before starting the course.

Following is a checklist of the steps that need to be completed before the first day of the nursing assistant class:

Apply for college admission (admissions department, 989.275.5000.ext. 284) or online at http://kirtland.edu/admissions/

Take the college placement testing (COMPASS), if needed. (Contact the admissions department for more information, 989.275.5000.ext. 284.) There is no fee for this testing.

Register for the nursing assistant course. Register early—seats in the class are limited.

Contact the financial aid department (989.275.5000.ext. 257) for information on grants and loans. Also, you may want to contact your local Michigan Works office to find out if you are eligible for any financial assistance.

Submit immediately the signed Background Check Waiver and Authorization for Release of Information forms with regard to criminal history. These forms are available in the health careers office, the M-TEC office, or by mail.  Felony convictions or misdemeanors indicating abuse or neglect of vulnerable populations will prohibit admission to the clinicals that are part of the nursing assistant program.

Submit a Required Abilities and Health Care Provider Recommendation form after it has been filled in and signed by your healthcare provider (includes proof of TB test done within six months of the start date of the course). This form is available at the health careers office, the M-TEC office, by fax, or mail. It is due in the health careers office by the first day of the nursing assistant course. Note: This is the only form that will be accepted as the signed document from your healthcare provider.
