The Senior Citizens of Missaukee County are collecting inactive cellular phones in good working condition (with battery charger) to distribute to senior citizens as 9-1-1 emergency phones. Please drop them off at 3728 S. Morey. Seniors who would like an emergency phone may call 839-7554.
New Family Caregiver Support Group. Call 839-7839 or toll free (888) 616-3102 between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
COA Services
Who is Eligible?
Services are available to residents of Missaukee County who
are at least 60 years of age and meet program reqiuirements.
Is There a Charge?
A needs-based assessment and income-based sliding fee scale
is used to insure the targeting of multi-needs clients.
Memorials
Tax-deductible memorial contributions are accepted; they are
used to provide services to older adults in Missaukee County.
Requesting Service
Contact our In-Home Service Coordinator at (231) 839-7839 or
toll free at 1-888-616-3102. Our coordinator will set up an appointment to
complete an assessment and determine eligibility. Referrrals are accepted from
older adults, family members, physicians, hospital discharge planners, and
concerned individuals.
In-Home Services
Programs include personal care, respite, homemaker, and home
chore.These services are available to homebound senior citizens of Missaukee
County who have been assessed by our In-Home Services Coordinator and are found
to be in need of assistance in maintaining an independent lifestyle. Medication
management and foot care are also available. These skilled services are provided
through Care Management or on a private pay basis.
Family Caregivers Support Group: Meets the 4th Thursday of the month at the COA office in Lake City from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Call (231) 839-7839 or toll-free at 888/616-3102 during regular business hours.
Home Chore Program
This includes lawn mowing, snow removal, deep cleaning, and
minor home repair. NOTE: The
COA will not be doing lawn mowing in 2005. This was not a cost-effective
program. Clients and/or interested partiesmay call the COA for a list of
reputable providers who will give senior discounts.
Transportation Assistance
Seniors citizens needing to visit their physician or other
health care provider, to go shopping, pick up prescriptions, visit their
dentist, etc., may apply for this service.
Prescription discount
Program
Save on regular retail prices on may brand-name as well as
generic drugs. You must be a resident of Missaukee County without prescription
coverage who is 60 or older. The card costs $15 per person. This is not a
mandated program; residents 60 and older must pay the fee.
Dining Out Vouchers are available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Center meals, home delivered means and dining out available. The Commission on
