Enhance your driving skills with AARP’s Driver Safety Course!

Traverse City , Mich. - The AARP Driver Safety Program, a classroom driver refresher course for drivers aged 50 and older, will hold a class at the Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging.   Several major auto insurance carriers in Michigan offer discounts to graduates of the program.  For example, AARP’s auto insurance underwritten by The Hartford, provides a 10% discount for a period of three years after taking the course.  Interested persons should contact their carrier to see if such a discount is available.

The next class will be held on August 7 and August 8, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.  YOU MUST ATTEND BOTH CLASSES IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A CERTIFICATE.  The classes take place at the Commission on Aging office, 520 W. EVERY SECOND COUNTS!

Traverse City, Mich. – The Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging is currently distributing free FILE OF LIFE refrigerator magnetic pouches with insert cards to Grand Traverse County residents 60 years of age or older.  The FILE OF LIFE pouches provide necessary medical and contact information for Emergency Medical Personnel in the event of an emergency.  By simply filling out the packet and placing it in clear view on the refrigerator, you can help save your life or the life of a loved one.  Packets may be picked up at the Commission on Aging office located at 520 West Front St. in Traverse City Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M


The Commission on Aging is pleased to announce that since August of 2007; nearly 10,000 File of Life pouches have been distributed throughout Grand Traverse County.  Our goal is to distribute another 5,000 pouches this year.  Please call 231-922-4688 or toll free at 1-877-686-4688 if you would like more information.

announce that we are now helping over 120 senior citizens in our Personal Emergency

Response Program. Prior to July 2007, we assisted twenty seniors in this program. The

Personal Emergency Response Program assists seniors, 60 years of age or older, in

Grand Traverse County, in the event of an emergency such as a stroke or a fall. The

senior simply presses a button and help is called. This program, along with other

programs offered by the Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging, assists seniors in

our area to live safely at home. The main source of funding for all services provided is a
