BAYSIDE ADULT COMMUNITY CENTER

(Traverse City Senior Center)

1.           Contestants shall compete in teams of three, deciding as a group (at least two out of three) how their word is spelled. Only one representative goes to the microphone to read out the decision.

2.      The team representative should pronounce the word before and after spelling it. [Example: uh•may'•zing  a-m-a-z-I-n-g   uh•may'•zing]

3.          Before starting a word, the team may request the Bee Master to define a word, use it in a sentence, or pronounce it again.

4.       A representative may stop in the middle of a word and start over, but there can be no change of letters from the original recitation. The full spelling sequence should take no more than 30 seconds.

5.       Upon missing a word, a team immediately drops out of the contest. The next word on the list is given to the next team.

PLAYOFF RULES

6.          When only two teams are left, the elimination procedure changes. At that point, when one team misspells a word, the other team shall be given a chance to spell the same word. If they spell that word correctly, plus the next word on the list as validation, then the second team shall be declared champions.

7.       If Team A misses, and Team B, after correcting Team A's error, misspells the new word, then the misspelled new word shall be referred to Team A. If Team A succeeds in correcting the error and correctly spells the next word, then they shall be declared champions.

8.       If both teams misspell the same word, both shall continue in the contest, and the team that first misspelled the word shall be given a new word. The contest shall then continue under rules 6 and 7.

9.       The judges’ decision shall be final on all questions.
